Bloom

Learning to read takes books. Learning to read well, and developing a love of reading, takes lots of books. Books at all different skill levels. But how are low-literacy language communities ever to get all those books in their language? They can do it with Bloom.

Testimonials

These little books are very popular and are sought after by the Kwakum people, many of whom are teaching themselves to read so that they can read these books. We hope to have 800 pages of readable material for this group within the next couple of years and thanks to Bloom this is an attainable goal.

Additional Description

Bloom book creation software offers a practical and innovative solution to a common challenge in local-language literacy projects: the need for a large collection of reading materials to foster literacy and interest in reading. Traditionally, the scarcity of resources and expertise has limited the production of local-language books, often resulting in a minimal selection that hardly satisfies the community’s needs or ignites a passion for reading. Bloom addresses this issue by simplifying the book creation process, enabling individuals with minimal training to produce a variety of books, including talking books, comic books, and even materials for the visually impaired and sign language users.

In the context of a Bible translation project, Bloom can be instrumental in generating interest and enhancing literacy in the target language. Once the Scripture is translated, Bloom can be used to create supplementary materials like storybooks, illustrated Bibles, and interactive learning tools that align with the cultural and linguistic context of the local community. This not only aids in developing reading skills among the community members but also deepens their engagement with the translated Scriptures. By facilitating the creation of diverse and accessible reading materials, Bloom helps to build a strong foundation for literacy that can significantly contribute to the overall success of Bible translation projects and foster a lasting interest in reading the Bible in the local language.
